Maureen Devery, Outreach Manager

maureen Maureen is the Outreach Manager for SHINE, working with educators, students, and community organizations to increase awareness of nanotechnology. Prior to joining SHINE, she worked in informal science education at The Museum of Flight and served as an AmeriCorps VISTA at Tukwila Elementary School. She became interested in informal education while working in the New Orleans Public Schools before moving to Seattle. Maureen has her Bachelor’s Degree in Earth Science and Environmental Science from Tulane University.  She is currently working toward her Master’s Degree in Zoology through the Advanced Inquiry Program at Miami University and the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle.  Maureen can be reached at  This email address is being protected from spambots. Mine provides career counseling for North's Nanotechnology students, facilitates regional partnerships and internship development with industry members and coordinates campus recruitment for North's Nanotechnology program. Mine has 9+ years in the social service field that encompasses higher education, employment, and counseling; with a focus on serving underrepresented and underserved populations.  Peter Kazarinoff, Managing Director, Lab Manager and Faculty

Peter maintains and provides training for all of the scientific instruments in the SHINE Nanotechnology Lab. Peter's prior experience in nanotechnology includes his research on the fabrication and testing of organic solar cells and field-effect transistors, part of the PhD in Materials Science and Engineering he earned from the University of Washington in 2012. Sarah McQuaide, Faculty

Sarah teaches the lab portion of the Micro/Nanofabrication course on the University of Washington campus. Sarah is a research engineer at Silicon Designs, Inc.

Brian Rucci, Program Coordinator

Brian manages the day-to-day office operations from SHINE, and has assisted with the coordination of two different National Science Foundation Grants since coming to North Seattle College in 2009. He is currently working towards a degree in Environmental Studies with a Minor in Environmental Science and Resource Management at the University of Washington. Kristine Schroeder, Lab Technician

Kristine maintains the SHINE Nanotechnology Lab and provides training on the laboratory instruments.
